The course in Graphic Design focuses on training visual communication experts.
This professional figure works on complex “communication systems” through different media, having knowledge of advanced editing software, professional printing and production methods.

The contexts students operate in are graphic design studios, which are progressively expanding in different fields: product design, communication, fashion, photography, but also corporate communication and design areas, publishing companies, web, advertising agencies and TV production.

Title – The First Level Academic Diploma is recognized by MIUR (Ministry for Education, University and Research) and equated with the Bachelor’s Degree issued by Universities.

    Description

Context - Graphic design is everywhere, in printed and digital applications of our everyday life.

Methodology and structure – A strong laboratory overtone is the feature of the course: from basic design theories to high-level professional simulation, students progressively develop complex research projects through guided design labs in collaboration with real companies.

In parallel with the design laboratory classes, our students acquire historical, sociological, economical and technical skills.
These techniques are useful to help them on interpreting and decoding the language of visual communication, of contemporary arts, cinema and all the society communication needs.
Our students acquire immediately the basic tools of Graphic Design: knowledge on Typefaces' usage, page formats and layouts, genesis meaning and perception of shapes and colors. The study plan also focuses on technical tools: from basic softwares on Photo editing, picture management and vector graphics to advanced ones dedicated to web design, 2D and 3D animation, video editing and TV graphic.

The final part of the course covers topics of increasing complexity where our students acquire autonomy on managing timings and schedules from the project’s concept to its completion.
The last and most significant step in our educational process is the choice and development of a Thesis Project, a complex and articulated theme carried out in collaboration with real companies to research creative and innovative design and communication solutions.

    About IED:

IED forms a truly unique network of encounters, experiences, people and cultures. The students develop a deep sense of belonging and their drive to innovate and share resources, ideas and contacts forges a tight-knit community.

IED is also part of CUMULUS (International Association of Universities and Colleges of Art, Design and Media), ELIA (The European League of the Institute of Arts) as well as a member of ERASMUS+ (Erasmus Charter for Higher Education 2014-2020 award and Erasmus Policy Statement). It also maintains links with various international Universities and Academic Associations, including: ADI (Association for Industrial Design), NAFSA (Association of International Educators), and EAIE (European Association for International Education): a large group of institutions based in different parts of the world that completes and expands upon the possibility of academic exchange open to IED students.

This wide-ranging group of international organizations grants IED students even more extensive possibilities for academic exchange. Numerous bilateral agreements with prestigious foreign universities provide the chance for our students to take part in the Exchange Study Program and in the Erasmus + Program and spend a semester abroad at one of our partner universities or another IED location.

The enormous heritage of international creative ideas, words and deeds is a worldwide acknowledged IED value, demonstrating that respect for cultural diverity and multidisciplinarity and the resulting ‘culture of jointness’ approach to education are an unquestionable key to success.
